The AAIB report found that the co-pilot, with over 6,000 flight hours and recently back from leave, couldn’t identify the cause of the error. The report highlighted the complexity of take-off procedures and suggested pilots refresh their actions after time away from flying. A British Airways Boeing 777 bound for Vancouver caught fire during take-off at Gatwick when the co-pilot mistakenly pulled the wrong thrust lever, causing a rejected take-off at 186 mph and a brake fire. The incident led to a 50-minute runway closure, 23 cancellations, and 16 diversions, affecting thousands. Thankfully, there were no injuries among the 334 passengers and 13 crew.
